Day 34 Beginning

poicityAnother sort of uneventful day...but Team Rocket won.
Facts not mentioned in the run are in asterisks, since there are a few I didn't get due to time constraints yesterday evening.
The Beginning:
- That van from yesterday? It turned out to be car bomb that killed *66* people at an apartment complex in South Chinatown.
- Bomb goes off in the arena, but Rai arrests the suspect rather handily.
- Someone steals the Change Day gem.
- Mina's not around.
- Mei-Liong and Lilith would talk briefly, but the former's reception to the latter is oddly...cold.
- Kira managed to make it to Konata despite the crazy cold.
- The thief calls Claudine once, but the latter hangs up on her.
- RaZE and Claudine have a hilarious text conversation. Among things highlighted in it are: RaZE teasing Claudine for her lack of backbone (actually ties into a later scenario), RaZE
and Nanako's close friendship. Eventually it drives Claudine nuts so she heads to the damn office.
We Interrupt this Program Part I:
- RaZE calls Claudine in to tell her that the Change Day gem has been stolen. Although this part gets sad and funny later on, we'll go to the next bit.
We Interrupt this Program Part II:
- Desperate for a new read, Elin asks Brie where her house is after the latter brings up she has a lot of books. The two would finally meet up (following a brief lulz of Elin going to the wrong side of the suplex).
- Brie also learns the Change Day gem has been stolen, and checks out Rai's office. One Goggle Eye wasn't enough to find anything wrong; it took a second for her to see past the illusion and find it has been stolen.
- In addition, Brie finds out about the Principal's own EPIC plans posted in the Zanzibar Examiner (which Brie was sure she shut down). After being made aware of these, she quickly has Liane store them.
The Truth About Rohe:
- Claudine would do her best to describe the thief to RaZE, but she really can't do a good job due to their use of illusion magic.
- RaZE concludes they must have a very skilled illusionist, so they must have a strong affinity for Change Day since they're probably good at manipulating light. She tells Claudine that while her own Change Rohe gem has made her stronger, she lacks a real affinity for it.
- Curious, Claudine would ask what would make her have one.
- RaZE basically tells it how it is: "I'd say that you'd have to have endured great loss or hardship throughout your life to have a strong affinity for it. Since it's the gem of those who prematurely died and lost very much."
- Claudine feels horrible after learning this, realizing she should have stolen the other gem. RaZE asks her what she's gone through since she stole it.
- Well of course, Claud/Claudine brings up that she feels like she'll die (See: Curse of Rohe that Niko had to break). RaZE confirms that its why she's researching her so extensively.
- Claudine apologizes, noting she just doesn't know what to do anymore. So RaZE asks her for the Rohe Flip...and this is where you get a description of every single tragic character Josh could think of at the time: Sole, Mina Zarius, Xiao Li, Elvin (although Claud/Claudine can't use Elvin), Ivy, Miguel, and lastly Fraise...with Claudine crying in the background.
- Fraise triggers an odd reaction where RaZE sees an outline of someone else on Claudine. Before she hands the Rohe Flip back to Claudine, she reads up info on a new profile: Fraise III.
- It leads her to conclude that perhaps Claud has a better affinity for it than she thought.
- Claudine just notices she cried up a puddle, and the funny begins where RaZE hands her a tissue and tries to get her to leave (AGAIN XD).
- Claudine takes her "Floodgates" remark a bit too seriously, theeeeen RaZE mentions "that time of the month" which throws Claudine off so much that she can't even leave properly.
Important:
- Mina won't be around until Friday, putting her right in the middle of EPIC First. However this also clears her from an event that takes place the next day over.
- Mei-Liong never gets too close to most people, so her being cold to Lilith isn't too odd.
-- Although it sure as hell is a throwoff!! You'd think a nice social person like Lilith would have an easy time with her!
- RaZE's a bit dirty minded, while Claud/Claudine just really sucks at defending themselves in an argument.
- The Examiner has 3 servers and many proxies. Someone did their homework.
- Josh did such a good job handling the tragic description bit that I might actually do a few more of my own later on. But basically the tragic descriptions RaZE gave for each character gives you an obvious idea: The Rohe gem contains mostly people of tragic fates, or those who suffered horribly during their time in existence.
-- About the only3 subversions are Leo's characters (DEBATABLE, he may correct me later) on the gem and Anaru.
--- Leo clarified to me that Amaranth went through some serious abuse from her father which even led to rape. Cherry had a very crappy "husband" who shot her kids.
- Claudine possibly being a reincarnation of Fraise III is now a very strong possibility; that outline around her was that of Fraise III herself.
-- ...well that might explain how much of an epic fail for a guy Claud actually is, which RaZE pointed out earlier!
- The EPICs the Principal laid out were:
EPIC First: Use High End Manifestations to decimate the student body
EPIC Second: Utilize the legendary villains of other worlds to give the staff a problem
EPIC Final: Utilize the powers of Change Day to kill the police chief
- EPIC Final is a reference to Crossroads, where Mina's holy elemental attacks were enough to hurt Rai despite the big power level difference.
Shoutouts/Refs:
- The very first thing Rai says to the suspect is Bit's own catchphrase:
" Well, well, well...what do we have here?"
- This song sums up Poi rather handily.
- The Knights of Nature was a Webchat channel Psychic-Professor ran during his second run on IRC!
- Angel Island? Do you mean the Sonic levels or the actual island in San Francisco Bay?!
- Claud, stop being Bit. Bit keeps getting outsmarted by the girls when he's not fighting them!
- The very last line Claudine says after the text convo is a twist on a line from TQ:
(09/24/07 Log, regarding the volcano in Nankyoku) Crystal: Oooh, hot. We'd better freeze it a-
(Day 34, after the text convo is over) Claudine: -Ooh, hot. I'd better freeze it...-
- So RaZE thought Claudine played with herself, just like Yuuki did? OH NOS.

- A Princess being shipped with another Princess? Damn it Claudine, no Eirika x Tana. Absolutely no Eirika x Tana! That stuff is best left in people's terrible stuff on Fanfiction.net!
- Liane mentions "Turbo Victory". Turbo Victory is yet another Turboranger related thing, this time part of its OST!
- Liane mentions an EPIC LAST Final that's completely false because its an Endless Waltz shoutout!:

- Remember folks, crying lowers your ability to see well. That's what Earthbound taught you!!

-- RaZE basically broke through Claud/Claudine's faked toughness once and for all. It was bound to happen eventually. Not to mention its something you can find in real life: There's always people who look and act all tough, but the moment things get super serious or sad they just flat out break.
